Factors which typically impact upon the paint system are (i) the binder system, (ii) the method of applying the paint, (iii) the film layer thickness, and (iv) drying conditions. The picture below demonstrates the difference in matting effect caused by different binder systems.

Sometimes paints are dried under different conditions, e.g. during week forced before weekend just air-drying. Different matt degree is the result. One can increase the same gloss effect by applying several layers of the same paint film.
